Chapter 1

All my life I have kept a secret. A secret from humans even though I am human but I wasn’t raised by my human parents. My human parents died. I was then taken in by two vampires who raised me with their secret and in their world.

I’ve always known I would become like them one day when I’m ready. I went to school with human children and I was a bright and smart student because my parents taught me heaps since I could learn. I was reading books beyond my age all the time but I loved this.

But then school was going to change for me. They decided that I wouldn’t do my last year of school with humans. I would instead do it with vampires at the boarding school they have. I didn’t like this one little bit and I made sure my parents knew this little fact.

“I don’t want to go. I’m doing well at school. Plus isn’t it insane sending a human to a school full of vampires. They do drink blood” I said

“Darling they won’t hurt you” Dad said

“Really what if one gets hungry and needs a drink and I happen to be the only food around” I said

“They wouldn’t” Mum said

“Do you know all the vampires going to this school?” I said

“No not all but most of them” Dad said

“I rest my case. Who’s to say that all of them would be up to having a human around” I said

“It will be safe” Mum said

“You can’t promise that” I said

“Darling you are being unreasonable” Dad said

“I wonder why. You are making me go to a vampire boarding school for my last year of school because why” I said

“Because you need to be around more vampires, you need to learn more about us. So you can make your mind up on whether you want to be a vampire” Dad said

“My minds already made up. I want to be a vampire” I said

“We know but we think you should get to know more about being vampire before you become one” Mum said

“There’s really no point in me arguing is there because you are going to ship me off anyway” I said

“Yeah darling” Dad said

I moaned and I walked out of the lounge room. I thumped up the stairs as I walked just to be dramatic. I walked to my bedroom and opened the door. I just got home from spending the day with friends. I opened the door and I was shocked.

All my stuff was packed and ready. Were they that eager to get rid of me? I wanted to scream but I instead just ran away from my room. I ran back down the stairs but my dad caught me before I could make a run for outside. It sucks having a father who is faster then you.

“No running away” Dad said

“Fine I guess I’m leaving now” I said

“Yes we have to leave now. All your stuff is in the car. Now lets go” Dad said

He didn’t left go off me. He took me to the car and made me get in. Mum got in the front and Dad then got in. I sat there and folded my arms across my chest. Dad looked at me and shook his head. Then we drove away from the house. I watch the town I grew up in all my life go by. I was going to miss it and I was going to hate Midnight School.

Can vampires ever be creative all do they just love using puns in things they name that belong to them. They always use words associated with night, blood or vampire. It’s so stupid.

I couldn’t believe they were doing this to me. I couldn’t believe they were sending me to a school full of vampires. Didn’t they worry about the face I was the only human there. It was like I had food written on my head.

“You know if I get eaten it’s your fault and it will be on your heads” I said

“For the last time Annabelle you aren’t going to be eaten. All the vampires know your coming and they are all actually looking forward to it. They love that they get to show a future vampire the ropes. I think your going to find it great” Dad said

“You will be fine” Mum said

“I can’t even protect myself really because its not like vampires have many weaknesses I can use against them” I said

“You won’t kill anybody either” Dad said

“How if I’m being attacked I’m going to protect myself” I said

He just shook his head. I sat there looking at the scenery going by. I was angry about this. I was being drag off to some school where I knew nobody. This was ridiculous. I really didn’t like the idea of being the only human in the whole school.

I fell asleep after a bit. But not even sleep gave me peace from what I was about to do. I was running along a hallway and I looked over my shoulder. There were heaps of vampires coming after me. I saw blood on some of them. I then looked down and realize I was bleeding.

I was so scared. I kept running through the hall to escape them. I knew this would happen. I ran down some stairs but some jump to the bottom before I reached it and I ran straight into them. I screamed out.

I was looking up at the roof. Dad and Mum were both looking at me from the front seats. I took a breath and I sat up. That was not a good dream. They both looked worried.

“Did you have a nightmare?” Mum said

“Yeah” I said

The sun was setting. I could tell. What was up? It had been night when I left home and now it was sunset.

“How long was I asleep?” I said

“You slept all night and all day darling” Mum said

“Really I wasn’t that tied” I said

“You must have been its good anyway because the school only teaches at night. The students sleep during the day” Mum said

Vampire could live in the sun but it made them weaker but still strong. My parents lived by both because of me. So I would become a night dweller. I would live by the night. Bye to the day time. Of course I would still have to go outside during the day for my health but I would become basically a night person.

“Great” I said

“Annabelle we are nearly there and try to be nice” Dad said

“I will try my best” I said

We kept driving. I had no clue where we were. All I knew was that we were in America somewhere and in a forest type of area. There was forest on either side of the car. No human knew of this place and it was to stay like that.

I watch the trees go by the car and I was getting more nervous about this as we kept driving. I knew it was near. I was going to be spending the next year with vampires. I then saw the school.

And it was as expected. It was big, scary looking and dark. Of course it was like that it’s a vampire school. I could feel the anger and the nerves in me building as we drove closer. This is not my idea of my last year of school. I really didn’t want to go to Vamp school. Most of the vampires here were old and were here to just meet others of their kind and here I was coming to I could socialize with them and learn. Well that’s what my parents wanted.

I had entirely different idea. I wonder how much trouble I can get into. I have a wild streak which my parents always found good. I would always find trouble no matter what it is. I’m just good at causing trouble for my elders and let’s see how much I will cause here.

We drove up to the school and Dad parked in front of the school. I got out and it was eerily quiet. It was kind of spooky. I shut the door on the car and Dad pulled me around the car. He made me stand next to him and Mum. We were looking at the school.  

“Just like I imagine. It’s gothic and gives you the creeps. Like all vampire places” I said

I heard a deep laugh from in front of us. Standing at the front door was a man. He was probably about forty when he was turn. He was still pretty ok looking. He was smiling at us.

“Welcome to Midnight Boarding School Annabelle and it’s a pleasure to see you again Marius and Claudia” He said

My parents were Romans when they lived.

“Khay it’s been to long” Dad said as he walked to him.

Mum also walked to him. He and Dad did the whole manly hug and then he hugged my Mum. Old friends.

“It’s good to see you” Dad said

“It is and I’m so happy you have brought Annabelle here. Its going to be good not only for her but for the rest of the students. You being here as excited the students. They are very eager to meet you. You will not only be learning about us but they will also be learning things from you” Khay said

Lucky for me. I smiled.

“I understand this is going to be hard to begin with but you will settle fine and if you ever need to talk. My door is always open” Khay said

“Thank you Khay. She as only met a few dozen vampires and I think this will be a big step for her. Annabelle Khay is very much like me in personality and you should find him kind like me. So if you do need to talk he would always be there” Dad said

“I will keep the closes of eyes on her” Khay said

Great I have a babysitter. I decided to play nicely. I walked to him and I put my hand out. To meet him properly.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you and I’m glad you have allowed me to attend this school” I said

He took my hand and shook it.

“Thank you and I’m glad to have you” Khay said

I smiled and let go off his hand. He then clapped his hands together.

“Well then we better give you the tour and then you will meet the rest of the students” Khay said

He stepped aside and we all walked in. There was a huge entrance room and I saw two sets of stairs. It was the same as outside. Dark and scary. He then started the tour. He showed me my room which I had to myself which was awesome. He showed me the classes. Then the grounds. He showed us everything. Then we were back in the entrance room.

“Your things will be taken to your room. I will let you say goodbye to your parents. I will wait in here. It was good to see you two again and we will see each other later” Khay said

They both said goodbye and then they took me outside. Mum was crying. I couldn’t believe it. I thought she wanted me to come here and here she was balling her eyes out over leaving me here. She hugged me tightly and cried. I patted her back and Dad hugged us both.

“I’m going to miss you so much and I love you” Mum said

“I’m going to miss you to” I said

She kissed my forehead and let go of me. Then Dad hugged me again.

“I know this might be hard but I promise this will make you a better person and vampire. I love you and I will miss you” Dad said

“I love you and I will miss you” I said

They hugged me again and then Dad pulled the stuff out of the car. In a flash somebody had them gone. They climbed into the car. Mum wind her window down. They were both smiling but mum was crying also.

“Now don’t get into to much trouble. Make sure you keep that wild streak at bay” Dad said

“Hey you know me. Trouble finds me” I said

They laughed and then they drove away. I waved as they drove away from me. Now I was all alone great. I turned and headed back into the school. I shut the door behind me and Khay was smiling. He put his arm around my shoulder.

“It will be fine. Now let’s go and meet the other students” Khay said
